Mites have continued to appear sporadically on the lower leaves of this planting. It is located next to where I park (after exposure to mites) and where customers park, and the prevailing winds blow directly into the planting. After neglecting the planting over early summer, I discovered that the mite population had spread to the upper foliage. In August, I thinned out all the old culms, leaving only the new shoots from the 2005 growing season. I also applied insecticide to the grove and surrounding areas.
